The Various Components And The Working Of The Satellite Internet

The internet access that is provided via communications satellites is known as Satellite Internet.  The current satellite internet service is offered to the users by way of geostationary satellites. It offers high data speeds up to 15 Mbps using new satellites.

The components of the Satellite Internet

The Satellite Internet depends on three major elements. The primary component is the satellite in geostationary orbit (the orbit that has a position in sky which stays the same for a fixed observer on earth) that is typically referred to as Geosynchronous Earth Orbit. The second being the number of ground stations that is referred to as gateways which transmit internet data to and from the satellite through radio waves. The very small aperture terminal (VSAT), dish antenna with the transceiver which is situated at the premises of the user is some major components.

Other components

The other components included are the modem at the user end that connects the network of the user with the transceiver and a centralized network operations center (NOC) to monitor the entire system.  When working in co-ordination with the broadband gateway, the satellite functions a Star network (common computer network) topology. Here is where all the network communication moves through the hub processor of the network that is at the center of the star.  With this type of configuration, you can connect numerous remote VSATs to the hub without any limitations.

Modem and Antenna dish

The customer must have added physical components installed for accessing the broadband satellite network for the equipment that is customer-provided say PC and router

The outdoor unit

The outdoor unit consists of a small, reflective dish-type radio antenna which is constructed from and covered with numerous materials.  Receive and transmit elements are mounted at the focal point of the antenna that typically sends and receives data from or to the satellite.
